Liked your script a lot cktt, added a bit onto it, including stopping and starting the update daemon and backing up the installation before updating. I run this nightly through cron. You mean like

Preferences -> General -> Allow duplicate articles ?

Toggle that off and dupes go away, at least for me.

found the solution to my issue. my network interface was in bridge mode, apparently bridge timeouts affecting php fopen. could not find values that would work with php. taking down the bridge and using just eth0 allows php to work just fine. not sure if the bug is in the bridge, php, the kernel, or ...

Trying to get tt-rss working, both update and update2 don't seem to be, updating. All my feeds are coming up red.
