GoGomics removed RSS feeds for their comics !!

Postby mcbyte » 13 Jan 2017, 18:36

Since the new Gocomics website changed last week, I saw that my comics don't get updated anymore in TT-RSS.

I wrote them a support ticket, and got a response:
We actually stopped supporting our RSS feeds a couple of years ago, and chose to dismantle it when we switched from our old to our NEW website this past Monday.

can a workaround be done for this?

Try https://github.com/sebsauvage/rss-bridge

Rss-bridge is a PHP project capable of generating ATOM feeds for websites which don't have one.

It's an open source self hosted solution.

You need to develop your own bridge if the website is not included in the list.

See here for more details about that :

If you're in a hurry, try http://pagemon.net. I use it for a couple of sites that don't provide an rss feed.

I also emailed them but never got a response back.

Today I wrote a plugin that hooks FETCH_FEED and generates a fake Atom feed using the included MiniTemplator based on the content the code scrapes from their site. It's a workaround but probably the best one can do in the situation.

Another alternative is feed43.com. It is bare bones, but gets the job done for me.

That's what I meant, removed means no longer updated.

I found this little after my original post, works for now.

I think when I have some free time I'll make a bridge for gocomics with this, seems interesting.

Don't bother, I just wrote one. I'll make a PR on github in a few minutes. But my bridge fetchs the last comic, so if you want to improve it, you're welcome :wink: https://github.com/ldidry/rss-bridge/bl ... Bridge.php

Fetchs *only* the last comic.

My PR has been merged, so you can update your rss-bridge if you have one.

I can't get the RSS-Bridge feed to work. I put it through https://fakecake.org/myfeedsucks/ and http://www.feedvalidator.org/ (for the Atom version) and both check it OK. But I never see any activity in it. Here's what I'm getting back from a web browser:

Code: Select all

$ curl 'https://www.rogerdcook.com/rss-bridge/?action=display&bridge=GoComics&comicname=calvinandhobbes&format=Atom'
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<feed xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom" xmlns:thr="http://purl.org/syndication/thread/1.0">

Any ideas?

Stop wasting your time with that since the bundled af_comics plugin will now take care of this seamlessly for you?
