[1.8] MySQL server has gone away

Postby PaintedBox » 13 Jun 2013, 12:01

Since 1.8 my feeds are not updating. I get following MySQL errors:

Code: Select all

Fatal error: Query INSERT INTO ttrss_error_log (errno, errstr, filename, lineno, context, owner_uid, created_at) VALUES (256, 'Query UPDATE ttrss_feeds SET favicon_last_checked = NOW()\n    \n    WHERE id = \'86\' failed: MySQL server has gone away', 'classes/db/mysqli.php', '30', '', NULL, NOW()) failed: MySQL server has gone away in /www/htdocs/123/me.com/tt-rss/classes/db/mysqli.php on line 30

Fatal error: Query INSERT INTO ttrss_error_log (errno, errstr, filename, lineno, context, owner_uid, created_at) VALUES (256, 'Query INSERT INTO ttrss_error_log\n    (errno, errstr, filename, lineno, context, owner_uid, created_at) VALUES\n    (256, \'Query UPDATE ttrss_feeds SET favicon_last_checked = NOW()\\n    \\n    WHERE id = \\\'86\\\' failed: MySQL server has gone away\', \'classes/db/mysqli.php\', \'30\', \'\', NULL, NOW()) failed: MySQL server has gone away', 'classes/db/mysqli.php', '30', '', NULL, NOW()) failed: MySQL server has gone away in /www/htdocs/123/me.com/tt-rss/classes/db/mysqli.php on line 30

I am using a cronjob with the old update URL /backend.php?op=globalUpdateFeeds&daemon=1 because my provider does not allow access to the php interpreter. With 1.7.9 everything worked fine.

And this is the answer why 1.7.9 worked fine and 1.8 not?

"Nice" support! I purchased your app (you've got my money!) and the only answer I get are some links...
I know that shared hosters are not supported but this does not explain why with 1.7.9 everything worked fine. The update script runs to long since 1.8.

I can refund your $2 to you if you promise to print out your posts and eat them on video.

>I know that shared hosters are not supported

And yet, you seem to have a problem with support you are getting. Mysterious.

do error messages like this not suggest a path of inquiry to you?

MySQL server has gone away',

occurs because the script took to long to run. After 2 minutes my provider stopp the script execution and shut down the MySQL connection.
So the question is: why does the script took longer to execute since 1.8. It also could be that one of my RSS subscriptions took longer yesterday/today (since upgrade to 1.8) than the last few weeks. Was it a accident? I don't know. It doesn't matter anymore because I get silly answers instead of support.

I see no indication from you anywhere, until now, that there's a 2 minute timeout.

how can you even hope to get help with a problem when you post practically *no* information about what is happening?

and, wow, what a crappy provider.
