Updating Feeds - for non coders

Postby hmaier » 25 Feb 2014, 21:00

Hi all, trying to get ttrss running.

I have installed it on my host server, set it up and subscribing to a rss feed that requires authentication.

Then two entries popped up on the ttrss gui, and I copied the link url that ttrss generates.

On my google doc page, I used the importfeed function, pasted the url, and the same two entries showed up, but there should be more.

This is all as expected. The problem I have is trying to follow what the "Updating Feeds" wiki is trying to explain. (http://tt-rss.org/redmine/projects/tt-r ... atingFeeds)

PHP, Daemon, etc. are completely new to me. That's why the following terms/phrases mean absolutely nothing to me:
- "PHP CLI interpreter"
- "do not ever run update daemon or any PHP processes as root"
- "Run: php ./update.php --daemon"

What I'm looking for is an elaboration on the UpdatingFeeds that says:
- Go to cpanel myphp admin (screenshot).
- Click this icon (image).
- When this window pops up, type "php ./update.php --daemon"
- On your computer, open this program or download it here (link). Type "...".

Please and thanks,
Henry

Usually when I don't know what word means I google it and things generally become more clear. Maybe try that?

Master Tsung once said: he who is without purpose is like a bear with no feet.

His student replied: that doesn't help me at all with my question re: updating feed.

Then master Tsung proceeded to beat him brutally with a stick.

Is it a domain of sorrow and perpetual suffering, with your hollow laughter the only sound ever being made?

@hmaier

Well I think you should first familiarize yourself with the OS that you use, and then try to find where did you install php and tt-rss, cuz I have absolutely NO idea.
