Published articles as RSS format (not Atom)

Postby darknite323 » 30 Oct 2013, 16:21

This could possibly be placed in the Support section as well but I thought it would end up as a feature request eventually so I put it here.

Hi everyone,

I have been trying to setup Azureus/Vuze torrent client to check and download items found in my TTRSS Published articles feed.
No matter what I tried I could not get it to read the Published articles URL and start the downloads and after blaming Vuze, the plugins I was using, trying another one, checking Apache logs and even making adjustments to my server I eventually found out what the problem is.

Contrary to all of the text in the interface, the "View as an RSS feed" URL produces an Atom formatted feed, NOT an RSS feed. Which it seems all the add-ins I can find for Vuze only support RSS, not Atom.

Just wondering a few things.
 1. Why is it the Atom format, is there a specific reason?
 2. How easy/difficult will it be to add the RSS format as an option?
 3. Should the interface perhaps reflect the fact that the feed is in Atom format?
 4. Would anyone else benefit from adding this feature?
I do have various coding experience, with some in PHP and HTML so with some work I may be able to actually addthis feature myself.

Any thoughts?

You can modify the generated_feed template (I think there's even an example somewhere on the forums, this was requested before).

Thanks I had no idea that there was a template, makes it way easier to edit.

Here is my new generated_feeds.txt file in RSS format. I had no idea what to do with the Atom enclosure parts so I just removed them.
It's not perfect but works fine for my purposes, perhaps someone else can improve on it or benefit from posting it here:

Code: Select all

${FEED_TITLE}

${FEED_TITLE}

${ARTICLE_TITLE}
